    What do you think of the new Tri Motor Rivian R1S? Also when you visit our sponsors using our links it helps support our channel. Thank you for your support!
    CORRECTION From Video: Conserve Mode does not disable the rear motors in Tri Motor vehicles. Conserve mode enables the disconnect-on-demand function for the rear motors. All purpose effectively locks out the auto disconnect and keeps all three motors engaged all the time. This is according to Sandy's interview with RJ.

    I just ordered a RIT Tri-max-I pick it up in two weeks. I bought it to drive the notorious HANA Hwy. I live in East Maui. Yehawwww!

    For the price we got the R1S quad gen 1 at $75k, we’re really happy. Maybe if we get a higher resolution on the front and rear cameras, that’s about it. I’m very happy with the Driver+ for what it is. Like everything, tech will always change and I’m glad Rivian is continuing to improve their EVs.

    It’s not a blackout package. It’s called “dark out” because it’s not black. It’s all charcoal grey.

    Is the tri moter loud? Is it a quiet ride?

      You hear a little more electric motor sound (I like that) than on the dual motor but not as much as the first generation quad motor. Even on the 1st gen quad I like the sound of the electric motors. I would highly recommend trying one out at the service center to see how you feel about it. Sound is one of those things that can be subjective and what I think is acceptable or pleasant others may not.

    Thanks for posting. I can't say I am a fan of the new Ascend interior. I'll stick with my Gen 1 quad TBH. Why buy the tri motor at all? There really is no point. What for the new quad if performance is really important to you. Or better yet, buy a Tesla Plaid X or S. I am very happy with my Gen 1 R1T. I see absolutely no reason to buy a new tri or quad. Maybe if I had an R1S where the suspension was pretty crappy on the first gen but the R1T was always better dialed in than the R1S. As a parting thought, do some runs with a dragy and don't rely on a butt dyno which is notoriously inaccurate.

    That was not a safe launch with a car just passing you like that.

    It’s good to see some minor upgrades on trimotors, especially the land change thing. But I don’t think anyone is buying a rivian for the driving assistance ability. Imho, in house premium sound system and electric door opening on gen2 are downgrades compare to gen1 with Meridian Audio.

    Drove the new Gen2 R1S and it was just way too long - it wasn't too big, just too long. Can't wait for the R2, but it's going to be a while.

      R2 will be a very important vehicle for Rivian. It will take Rivian ownership more accessible.

    That material on the back of the front row seats looks like it will be a pain to clean pet hair out of. Not a fan of the door handles being slow to open. It sounds like something that is software adjustable.

    • @ElectrifiedOutdoors
      @ElectrifiedOutdoors  2 месяца назад +1

      The slow door opening is likely only limited to when the vehicle is left unlocked. Otherwise proximity should wake it up and present the handles for you.

      @@ElectrifiedOutdoors that makes sense. I measured my garage today to see if the R1S would fit well. We don't normally lock the car in the garage, so that will probably get annoying but it's a small annoyance in the overall experience. I suspect the car would wake up when we enter the garage so probably won't be an issue. Still deciding between R1S and R2.

      Since this was a loaner I was using keycard. If you use phone-as-a-key the truck should wake when you get in proximity.

    You, and some others, claim that Rivians show a dynamic range estimate, like other EVs. Can you check this? Our G2 R1S Dual Max 20" definitely does not. My daily drive is 35 miles and 5k' up a mountain in the morning, then back down in the evening. No stops, 60mph average, All Purpose mode. At any point during the trip, dividing the displayed range by the SOC gives within 1% of 385 miles. Over 4k miles, I've averaged 2.1 mi/kWh (about 300 miles actual range), so it hasn't adjusted in the long-term either.

      @ElectrifiedOutdoors  2 месяца назад

      The system claims that it adjusts based on driving (open energy screen and tap on the drive mode) whether the predictions are or are not accurate is still up for debate. The predicted range I call a guess o meter.

    • @dcmackintosh
      @dcmackintosh 2 месяца назад

      @ElectrifiedOutdoors Yes, I see that it claims that the estimate changes based on driving history. My tests and calculations have convinced me that it does not. Try it out if you get a chance.

    Really, after 5 or 10 launches, who cares about neck-snapping acceleration ? And, in your real world driving you can't get past the white Toyo van in next lane. That said, I enjoy seeing the refinements, but really hope the emphasis starts moving in direction of charging speed and real-world highway range.

    • @Cruor34
      @Cruor34 Месяц назад

      I care very much about the acceleration in EVs. It never gets old. The entire reason I bought one was for the acceleration to price ratio. Some people, I'd actually argue most, don't need range. I go to work and back or dinner and back. Maybe do a trip to something 60 miles away once every 2 months. What has you needing more than 300 miles range on a regular basis?
      EVs and gas cars both have a place in the world. If you drive so much the range is an issue, get a gas car. Why would they want to remove the most fun thing about EVs?
